Fun Thinking!

What a wonderful book!
I thoroughly enjoyed it - great fun and really gets your mind working.
It has filled in all those gaps which would otherwise just have been wasted -bus, tube, waiting in bar for friends. Its great to dip in and out of.
Only one problem - I am obviously going to have finished it well before Christmas! It would have been invaluable to stop the vegetation when just sitting around in the family scene. Fancy doing a sequel, Peter?

I absolutely love Peter Cave the king of philosophical paradoxes (at least to me). I first came to know about him through podcasts on philosophy and he is so funny. This book mirrors his sense of humor and natural wit. It feels like you are having a conversation with him over a glass of really good wine.

This book read my MIND!

.This book is excellent. Lisa walks you through pages of reflections of her life and inturn has you do the same of your own. I was so blessed and inspired when I finished this book. To those who are going to buy this book, (and I highly recommend it, as a matter of fact, I am ordering copies as gifts right now) find a quiet place, search your heart chapter after chapter, and rid yourself of that OLD baggage and find a new way to think about yourself and others.
God has really opened my mind to the way we as women should measure ourselves and stop focussing on our outer-self so much.

Seeing myself as God sees me!

What insight into the parables of Christ which changed my perception of myself. Honesty is a must. I had not seen myself through the eyes of truth. The truth will set you free. This book is about the inside of you. If my heart is right with Christ then I will strive to be like Him. This book helped me to look at myself spiritually. It will help you become more concerned with the beauty on inside instead of the physical beauty which so many are concerned with today. I want to be a beautiful woman on the inside and the beauty will shine through. My Thanks for reveiling God's truth for me.

...Didn't expect it to be so good and life applicable

I really bought this book to do a study with another woman who was having a problem seeing who she is in Christ. Once I started reading my copy I realized this book was FOR ME! (I still gave the other woman her copy). Each chapter encouraged me to search deep and tell the truth about how I feel about and measure myself. I am not a woman with low self esteem, but this book helped me to see some areas where I used incorrect weights to measure who I am and my value. Oh my, this is a MUST READ! and a MUST APPLY TO YOUR LIFE!!!

Love and growing up in the Plains

I was looking for a good read that had a setting anywhere west of the Mississippi. I wanted a storyline that would make me laugh, think, and maybe weep. I got all three in the wonderful book, "Plainsong".
The setting is the plains country several hours from Denver in a mythical town of Holt. The main characters are fashioned straight out of the dust and tumbleweed that make up the countryside. These are common people concerned with problems and issues that are found world-wide. But, here, amidst the rough cattlemen, the bored teenagers, the forgotten old women, the restless wife, the lonely school teacher and two growing boys...boys who watch the problems of the adults in silence but who sometimes ask sad questions like: "When is mom coming home?" When you read these words, your heart can feel the pain that comes with the loss of innocence.
That could be the subtext of this novel. The loss of innocence. Two crusty old ranchers lose the innocence of their isolation. A teenage girl looses her innocence on a hillside...and becomes pregnant, the loss of innocence of a teacher trying to do his job but is confronted with the very ignorance he is trying to erase.
It seems everyone looses something in this book. But they gain other things, ways of thinking and coping with what adulthood can do to people.
The characters play out their roles in a landscape that is lacking with lush greenery. Everything is straw-covered and dusty. Guthrie looses a wife but gains a real more meaningful love. Seventeen-year-old Victoria is tempted by the Big City but begins to find trust and true affection in the unlikely of places.
My only complaint about the book is that we get to hear what the inner voices of the main characters are saying. We hear the few words they mutter, but what's in their hearts? I would really like to know that.

This is my very favorite novel by Kent Haruf. I love all his works, but this is tragically beautiful and the ways in which he manages to have the characters cross paths is ingenious. As always, his prose is quiet, simple and yet so very compelling. You will LOVE this book!

It's OK but not excellent

The book is comprehensive and contains almost all what you want in cytopathology. The pictures are nice. However, I couldn't give the book more than 3 stars because of the text. The text is not easy to read and you feel yourself lost when you go through the text (this is in contrast to Cibas book which I believe that it is the best book in cytopathology I have ever read). If Bibo's book has better editing, it should become one of the best books. I recommend you combine this book with other resources.

Isla Dean: Such a tease!

My biggest frustration with Isla Dean is that she writes fiction. She paints such vivid pictures of places I'd like to visit, populated with people I'd like to meet and, in this case, spa treatments I'd like to try, but they're fictional. Sigh...

This book started with thrills scary enough to make it daytime reading for a while, but once I got over my initial nerves, I took it to bed & tore through it in no time. I don't want to spoil anything by citing specifics, but it was another exciting escape from my favorite romance writer.

Incredible read!

Isla dean has a way of pulling you in to the lives of her characters like no other author I've read. She captures the deepest essence of their desires and fears while so playfully letting them give and receive of each other.
This suspenseful story kept me guessing and was exciting to read. Her character and scenic descriptions were vivid and her romantic moments so alive with passion.
I would recommend this book to anyone as it was exciting, suspenseful, and had delightfully juicy romantic scenes. Such an incredible read!

Highly recommended book, but even higher recommended author

This is my 4th book from the new writer; I absolutely love her writing style. It has the perfect blend of suspense and passion topped with a hearty splash of character. She has an incredible talent to draw you into the characters, they way she describes their love, their desires, their fears and their surroundings. It’s rare to find a writer that can immerse you into not just the characters, but also the beauty that surround them. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait for your next release.

About the Author

Irene Deliege obtained her qualifications at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. After a twenty year career as a music teacher, she retrained in psychology and obtained her PhD in 1991 from the University of Liege where she was responsible for the Unit of Research in Psychology of Music. A founding member of ESCOM, she has acted since its inception as permanent secretary and Editor of the Journal MUSICAE SCIENTIAE. She is the author of several articles and co-edited books dedicated to music perception.


Jane Davidson is the current Callaway/Tunely Chair of Music at the University of Western Australia. She has published extensively within psychology of music with research topics including expressive body movement, collaborative performance, music learning and ability, and singing. Her first academic appointment was at University of Keele between 1991-1993, where she worked as a post-doctoral fellow with John Sloboda and Michael Howe on an innovatory study of the biographical determinants of musical abilities. This led to more than 20 joint peer-reviewed publications.
