Dr. Nikiforos T. Laopodis is a Finance and Economics Professor at Fairfield University, U.S. and at the Athens Laboratory of Business Administration at The American College of Greece, Greece. His areas of specialization are international finance and financial econometrics. He has taught at various Universities in the U.S. and in Greece and has been invited to give lectures to Universities and international organizations in Europe. He has published extensively in the fields of finance and financial economics focusing on interest rates, exchange rates, stock markets as well as monetary and fiscal policies. He is a regular member and contributor to professional organizations such as Financial Management Association and Eastern Finance Association.

I was so enthralled with this novel and I couldn't put it down. It was different than what I thought it was because of the way it was written but it was great. Flora Nwapa wrote this as a womanist novel and people do label this novel as a feminist novel, but this is mostly about a woman named Efuru in a Igbo community trying to live.

I read this 1973 - 74 when I was in Secondary School in Cameroon. The Book is worth reading by everybody; especially women.

About the Author
Carol Alexander is one of the world's leading authorities on market risk analysis. She is Professor of Financial Risk Management at the ICMA Centre, University of Reading where she directs a vibrant research group focusing on quantitative financial risk management. In her role as Chair of the Academic Advisory Council of the Professional Risk Manager's International Association (PRMIA) she has been a driving force for the setting of global standards in the financial risk management profession. Her untiring work on the Professional Risk Manager's Handbook and on classroom and distance learning training courses now provides the means to achieve these standards. She has published around 100 academic journal articles, book chapters and books, and now ranks amongst the world's best-known authors in financial risk management and quantitative finance.

Very good introduction

This is a very good introduction on the subject of portfolio management. I bought these books as a mathematical engineer because I want to write my thesis about stock options. Everything is clearly explained, they even explain a lot of the easy mathematics you need to succeed in the world of finance. Every book contains a cd which is very handy if you want to calculate an option's price in a minute or something.

In my opinion there is not enough said in the book about options, but then again, it is a book to learn the basics. If you want to become a succesfull options trader, you do need more literature on the forecasting of volatility surfaces and backtesting of technical indicators etc.

Brilliant, easy to read, ideal for self study and covering basically everything a serious finance practitoner needs to know. Lot's of hand's on solutions in excel - the only way to test whether one really understands the principles.

This was a very enjoyable book to read through. It really helped get into the minds of some fantastic traders. If you liked the market wizards books then this is along the same lines. It is interesting to note that most of the traders interviewed said they always took profits too early but that profits are profits.

reminds me of Market Wizards

I'm not finished reading it yet but so far its a great book.after about 5 chapters, it reminds me of Market Wizards authored by Jack Schwager which was first published in the early 90's?. Katherine Burton did a good job writing Hedge Hunters.

Enrich your understanding of how the disease affects victim

This is a book caregivers can hand to relatives and friends to read in order to enrich their understanding of how the disease affects both the victim and their caregiver. It is not only informative in a very practical and easy to read manner but it is sensitive and to the point about the stages of Alzheimer's Disease and the human needs of the people who face this illness. The personal stories highlighted are described in ways that aren't merely words on paper written by someone safely detached from the impact this illness has on living people. This book stands out in my mind for that reason. It also speaks to the loss of relationships as the illness progresses. I refer to over and over and its one of the first I read after I realized my husband Tom and I were facing Alzheimer's Disease.

An Invaluable Resource

This book was recommended to me by an acquaintance who helped care for her husband's mom as her dementia progressed. I cried as I read some of the chapters; but they were not just poignant vignettes. They provided crystal-clear insight into what my mom is experiencing. I could relate to the effects on the family. I learned some invaluable techniques to help on a daily basis. I realized that some of the patient's anger is just fear coming out in a "fight or flight" response where flight is not an option.

I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has a relative or spouse or close friend who is suffering from dementia or Alzheimers.

Excellent Resource and Beautifully Written

I was deeply involved in the creation of this edition, and I can say from experience that the authors have crafted a masterpiece. So much work, diligence, research, and love went into this revision. It is a great resource for family members of someone with Alzheimer's and related disorders, physician's and other practitioners, and even people who have been recently diagnosed. It can be used to educate someone who knows little about dementia or offer a new perspective to the experienced clinician. I highly recommend this book!
