Under a Cornish Sky is yet another great book by Liz Fenwick.

Under a Cornish Sky is yet another great book by Liz Fenwick. I would place it under contemporary women’s fiction with a dash of magic and an element of romance.

The things I have grown to expect from Liz Fenwick’s books were all there. This story is set in beautiful Cornwall, there is a house of significance, and of course, a little romance to warm the cockles of your heart. What I love is trying to work out what the rest of the story will be about. Will it be magical, historical, funny or dark?

Under a Cornish Sky focusses on two women who live worlds apart. A young woman who is grieving and down on her luck, and an older woman who seems to have everything she wants and is used to getting her own way. What will happen when circumstance forces these two very different women together?

I really liked the younger woman, Demi, and felt I related to her in a way. I really wasn’t keen on the older woman, Victoria at all, but perhaps I softened towards her later in the story.

Anyone who knows me well enough, knows I love the magic of fairies, so imagine my face when I was reading the prologue and it referred to fairies numerous times within the first two pages. What a treat.

“She has been to bluebell woods before. This is where the fairies live and she must never go into a bluebell wood without Grannie and Grandad because the fairies will trap her.”

I love the way Liz brings Cornwall to life in her books. In this book it was the description of bluebells and garlic which took me to specific time and place. The wild garlic smell can be surprisingly strong down here in Cornwall. I remember when my friend, Abi and her daughter, Katie came down to stay a couple of years ago, we were sniffing plants near the edge of the woods while visiting Halliggye Fogue, to source the garlic smell.

Also loved the bit where Demi goes into the charity shop and is helped to find clothes. I love things like that. Reminds me of those feel good Christmas films I’ve had the joy of viewing over the years. Always guaranteed to put a smile on my face.

The front cover gives the impression that this would be a great summer read, but if you live in Cornwall, I would strongly recommended this during winter. It will help get you through those months of grey mizzle and remind you that Spring is just around the corner.

I’m now really looking forward to book five, which is due out next year.

Just one of those books that you don't want to put down.

One minute you seem to have your life sorted and the next minute, everything has fallen apart around you. Within months Demi's life has imploded around her - she lost out on her dream job to someone who stole her ideas, her boyfriend turned out to be a sleazebag who abused her trust in the worst possible way, and her beloved mum suddenly passed away. leaving her all alone in London. With no job, no money, and nowhere to live, Demi decides to visit her grandfather in Cornwall to figure out what her next step will be. But as Demi gets acquainted with her mother's hometown, she cannot help the feeling that she has been here before or the fear that overtakes her at the strangest of times. For all is not as it seems, and when Demi discovers who her real father is, life may never be the same for her again.

Victoria will do anything to rebuild the Boscawen estate again. Owned by her family through the years but sadly sold on the death of her brother, Victoria has finally managed to reinstate herself in the only place she has ever truly wanted to be. But life has made Victoria hard and bitter, and when her husband dies in an accident, she feels sorrow but also relief that finally, she can do whatever she needs to do to make Boscawen great again. Having no children, Boscawen will become her legacy. Her obsession. But life is never that straight forward and with an unknown stipulation in her husband's will, someone else has the power to destroy everything she has ever dreamed of.

With plenty of twists and turns, the magic of Cornwall is woven through this beautiful tale of love, loss, and family. Throughout the story, Demi finds her inner strength and self-belief as she learns everything she needs to know about her past. Victoria, while not always likeable, is a strong character who has always had to fight for respect and for what she wants. The imagery mixed with the folklore brings a whole other added dimension to this emotional story and I loved the mystery and romance that Sam and Seb brought to the novel. UNDER A CORNISH SKY by Liz Fenwick is just one of those books that you never want to put down - beautiful scenery and folklore, engaging characters, and a plot that really grabs a hold of you. I eagerly await the release of THE RETURNING TIDE in 2017, and Cornwall will have to be my next holiday destination!

A beautiful novel, set in a lovely scenic part of the UK - Cornwall

This is the first book by Liz Fenwick that I have read, and I can assure you it won’t be the last.

The story has everything that I like in a book, love, conflict, gripping moments, unpredictability, and the occasional hot man!

The story centres around the two leading ladies, Demi and Victoria, who are thrown together by a sad event that affects them both separately, but unites them, although unity is not what they want at first.

I loved Demi’s character, who I thought was written superbly. The starting of a young woman who seemed quite reserved and shy, you watch her flourish as she has to face the world following the death of her mother.

Throughout the book you witness Demi having panic attacks, with places looking familiar, yet frightening to her. I was intrigued to find out what Demi’s past was hiding from her to cause these reactions, and I wasn’t let down when the answer was revealed.

Victoria (Tori), is a difficult character to like at first. She has been married to Charles for many, many years, even though she admits that she should have divorced him a long time ago. She has had regular affairs, the latest with her toyboy, Adam.

She is self-obsessed and money hungry, and has a fierce nature about her, especially when she learns that she has to share her family home, Boscawen.

I started warming to her the further I read in to the story, as her defensive layers started to disappear, although even through ill health she could still have a razor sharp tongue.

The plot is wonderful. This is the kind of book that you can sit and read for hours getting lost in the beautiful Cornish scenery, which is shown in all it’s glory, as the book is written in seasons.

Its one of those books that when you have finished reading, you just hope that there is going to be a sequel.

Of all the Prep Books for AP CALC, this is the BEST (and I bought them all)

My son is currently taking Calculus AB and will be moving into Calculus BC, I purchased about 5 different prep books to help him prepare for the exam (both AB, BC, and Clep). At first, I thought going with the BC book would suffice for questions for the AB part of the exam and for most people, if you are doing both, you can get by with just the BC book. However, since my son's teacher asks questions from actual AP tests on his exams, I could not find enough Free Response AB questions in the BC book, so I bought the AB book also to get more questions. There is a lot of overlap in content in both the books by the same author. However, this is HANDS DOWN the best book from all the different groups in terms of questions, examples, preparation, etc. If you only buy one book, THIS (or the BC version) is the one to get. It comes with a good review of each unit, problems to practice for each unit and shows you the answers worked out for each set of problems. It also has 3 full practice tests with the problems worked out. I really liked that once you worked through them all you could find patterns of the types of problems to expect and how to do them. I feel that this book will prepare my son better than any of the other books we have for AP Calculus. He is also going to go ahead and take the Clep exam and we have a different book for that, the Clep, has a slightly different "flavor" than the AP Calc so if you are considering that test in addition or instead of, I would still suggest this book and the books with practice clep tests. This still helps you better than any clep books in overall review but the clep books will help you prepare for their type questions. The BC book, as I said, repeats content but adds the extra units with sequences and series and the few other topics scattered throughout such as parametric​ equations, etc.

Terry Burrows is a musician of experimental pop music responsible for roughly 30 commercial releases under such guises as Yukio Yung and the Chrysanthemums. His is also a prolific author and contributor to books and CD-ROMs. His previous publications include the KISS Guide to Playing the Guitar (DK Books), which sold over 100,000 copies, The Beatles: The Complete Illustrated Story (Carlton), and a Courtney Love biography, to name a few.

Nicely done collection of memorabilia and photos.

I bought this book because it has a nice collection of photos and reproductions of memorabilia which I have come to enjoy in a book. It's a nice touch to not just have a photo of a ticket or poster to a show, but to have a reproduction of it as well. Otherwise, it's another book with some new information but mostly rehashed. I don't mind. I like Beatles books and in that vein it excels.

The deluxe version includes a couple nice extra pieces which are worth having so don't settle for anything less than the deluxe version.

Lovely (if pricey) collectable for Beatlemaniacs

Oversized, attractive coffee-table books about the Beatles used to be pretty common, and 'It Was 50 Years Ago Today' falls nicely into that tradition. Many of the photos are reproduced as big as the large pages will allow and the text is mostly accurate if somewhat superficial. The book avoids the usual cheats of including non-Beatle photos as a way of 'setting the scene' or simply rehashing newspaper articles by reprinting entire first pages. The paper stock is great, the graphics layout is first rate, and this is a book that you'll want to leaf through many times if you are Beatles fan.

As is currently the trend with collectible books about rock bands, a host of facsimile memorabilia is also included such as concert ticket stubs, promotional postcards, autographs, set lists, etc. Some of this is convincingly done, and some of it is rather blurry or not reproduced at full size. Almost all of this is from the earlier days of Beatlemania. If you're someone who's into creating paper props for community theater or role-playing games, you'll probably find some inspiration here. (I did find that similar facsimiles were done better in 'Treasures of the Rolling Stones' however). Be warned, though, that some of the facsimiles are really just large photos that are not copies of any publicity material used in the 1960s. These seem to be an almost identical set of facsimiles that appeared in an earlier, thinner book by the same author.

The book also comes with a DVD and five large square black-and-white prints. The DVD is under 10 minutes long and consists solely of news clips of the Beatles which vary wildly in audio quality. There's no Beatles music. I honestly wonder why the publishers bothered. If you're not forewarned about the DVD's brevity you will feel mightily ripped off. There's also really nothing special about the five prints, although the one with Jimmy Nichols is a pretty rare shot and will be of considerable interest to you if you remember the very brief period when Nichols subbed as drummer so that Ringo's hospital stay would not interfere with the Beatles honoring all their tour dates in 1964.

I don't think casual fans would want this book, and it isn't the first title that would come to mind if you wanted to do research on the Fab Four. However, this book is a wonderful gift for its intended audience - uncured, unrepentant Beatlemaniacs. For that reason, I recommend this book. It's great for what it is.

Awesome Collectible Book

I bought this book for my daughter for her birthday and she loved it. I first saw it in a catalog but have learned from experience to always check amazon before buying. Sure enough I got it for about $25 less than it was priced in the catalog. It has a book and lots of memorabilia. We already own another earlier collection so this one goes great with it.

In this colorful yoga guide Holly gracefully outlines the benefits of aerial yoga while offering a playful insight on essential oils, chakras, and the idea of embodying the goddess within. After taking her teacher training through Aviana and using this book for the course, I couldn't imagine a better text for learning how to sequence an elegant and intentional yoga practice. It is beautifully written and easy to navigate. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in deepening their yoga practice or just interested in learning about aerial arts and other healing modalities.

The photographs and clear explanation of entering and exiting each pose provide a safe, fun road-map for anyone interested in elevating their practice. The book also provides a brief introduction to essential oils and their powerful benefits.

This book is by far the most thorough and well put together aerial yoga resource that I've ever seen. The 282 pages of color illustrations make understanding and learning poses far less confusing than many of the other books on the market. So glad that I decided to order one up for the bookshelf.
